MD Programs for Career Changers

This site contains information on state-approved programs which lead to teacher certification for career changers. Maryland as 23 colleges and universities as well as six school systems offering programs for people who would like to teach and already have at least a bachelor’s degree but not in teacher education.

To find a program, use the drop down menu to choose the grade level or the subject area in which you would like to be certified. Early Childhood (grades Pre-K through 3), Elementary (grade 1-6) and Middle School (grades 4-9) are listed by level. Secondary (grades 7-12) and Specialty Areas (PreK-12) are listed by subject area. Special Education is listed in separate areas by level unless it is dual certification with another area.

Clicking on the level/subject will provide you with the list of programs in that area. Then, click on the program name, and a Word document with specific program information will be provided. This information has been provided by the colleges and will be updated as information is received at the Center.
