How to apply
If you are interested in the one-credit course, Exploring Teaching as a Next Career, which provides information about teaching and a field placement with a mentor teacher, contact your local community college. If the course is not yet offered by that college, please contact registration and tell them you are interested.
This spring, two sections of the course are being offered at Harford Community College. Register for Special Topics EDUC 261. Section 01 is offered in the classroom beginning on Feb. 18 9 AM - 4 PM. Section 02 will be taught over the internet in a course. Both sections will require a 5-day field placement in a school (5 days do NOT have to be contiguous).
In Columbia, MD, Howard Community College's exploratory course is EDUC 925, Section 950 and is an evening course from 6:00 - 8:50 PM on Jan. 31, Feb. 7, March 6, April 10 and May 1, 2012. Other Tuesday evenings will be determined by the instructor.
Once you are registered for the course, you will receive instructions on acquiring a background check and fingerprinting. These are required of all individuals working in pre-K through grade 12 schools.
